"It is important to learn the lessons from recent past specially at a time the covid 19 has brought future to our present.

First of all, it is important to understand that austerity measures, like the ones taken in Portugal in 2011, cannot l be an unfair burden to working class.

Blind austerity is no answer for an economic crisis.

It is crucial, for any recovery plan, to have a social dimension

if not,

it only adds poverty, social unrest and erodes the democratic institutions.

It’s now the time to put the European Pilar of Social Rights in practice restoring citizens trust and commitment regarding the European Project.

The recovery plan, supported by Portuguese government, is a step in the right direction provided it ensures that it makes the difference for the European citizens. Pandemic is no one’s fault, neither is recession. Member States have to take collective responsibility and deliver a fairer, greener end united Europe.

This pandemic crisis has brought the future of work to our present with a cost. I hope that during Portuguese presidency it will be possible to fix the conditions for a better family balance in the era of digitalization addressing

 Namely,

the right to disconnect.
