Dear colleagues,

The European Commission just published its legislative proposal on whistleblower protection. We have had leaked drafts for some time now and have been able to assess it in detail. Over all the directive is better than we had hoped for, but there is definitely room for improvement. We will work on communicating the detailed analysis the next few days.

As was just mentioned in the wide newsletter to all our subscribers, today is a good day to pause for a second and reflect upon the hard work so many have put down the past few years. We can be proud of what we have done together. We had set a clear focus on an important issue, and we have made a difference. It won't be done until the Council adopts the proposal, but a proposal from the Commission, which is a rather good one, is a very important milestone.

At this stage, it is crucial to remember that the window to influence member states in their process of forming an opinion for the Council is rather short. We will definitely need the advocacy work of all national Eurocadres members in this, as it is not possible for the secretariat to deal with all the 28 member states in a short time.

A big thank you for all the hard work so far! Let's celebrate a bit today, and then let's get started tomorrow on making the necessary improvements and ensuring that the Council supports the proposal.
